"Chris gets a job"
Chapter 1
Chris was not your average man, in fact,
by "society standards" he was not a man at
all, he was a little boy living inside of a
man's body.
But as his body grew, people would "expect" him
to be more like the man's body he lived in, including
having his own home, and getting a job.
That was fine by Chris, he loved to fix broken things,
so his father suggested that he tell that to the
job service people, so he did.
But at home, he still lived like a 7 year old boy.
He played with his Hotwheels, some of which
he had since he was 3.
He loved to take Simba,, his big toy stuffed
Lion to bed with him to chase bad dreams
away.
And, he LOVED watching Rugrats on Nickelodeon,,
and colouring with his crayons,, and playing in the
mud outside, and playing in the rain.
Chris tried job after job, working at the local
fastfood restaurants, but when a customer was
mean to him, Chris cried, and stamped back to
the back, went into the walk-in refrigerator,
and slammed the door very hard.
Of course they all fired him,
even though several of his supervisors
did not want to.
Chris returned to the job services
office and told them of the problem,
and this time a more thorough test
of his abilities was taken,
and he was re-assigned to a local
factory in the repair department.
So Chris was hired.
Chris was a very good worker when he
was in the right line of work,
not just "on time" and all that
bullpoop.
Most importantly, he was very good at what he did,
and he was very meticulous, and wicked accurate.
This scared some people
there, they thought he was a bit strange, but once
they got to know him, he was just like a little boy,
happy and bouncy, and he thought burping and picking
boogers on break was funny, but when he was working,
you just coud not pull him away from what he
was doing.
His supervisor liked him for those very two reasons
that he really knew how to bust butt, as some
of the employees seemed to not quite slice the
ketchup sometimes, Chris would see soemthing
not done right, and he would fix it. and he was just
plain nice.
Chris did not think it was such "hard work",
it is just what he does.
But, something was confusing Chris.
Several of the workers there kept coming by
his place and saying "Why don't you join the
union?"
Chris said "I don't know how." Or "Ok later.",
but he always forgot to stop by the office.
After work, Chris leapt from his seat, ran out of the building,
then jumped on the bus home, he was looking
forward to playing with his little friends when
he got home, again forgetting to stop by
the office to see April or Jack.
As soon as he got home, his little friend Joshie
saw him and ran to him "CHRIS CHRIS!"
Chris ran to Joshie and "slid into home base",
Mrs. O'Shay asked Chris if he would watch
Joshie on Friday again.
"Yeah after work."
"Of course after work, you silly!" Mrs. O'Shay
laughed. Chris was very literal most of the time.
Chris and Joshie had another great playtime as
Chris called it, it was not "work", even though
Mrs. O'Shay gave him some money for watching
Joshie.
Well, Monday rolled around again, and it was
time for Chris to go to work again, which of course
he thought of as fun, because he loved to fix
broken things.
There was not ONE thing in Chris's home that
was broken, not for long anyway, because
Chris would repair it straight away,
he couldn't STAND for something
to just sit around and not work.
Chris always woke up to his Chuckie from
Rugrats alarm clock, and ate Cocoa Pebbles
with slices of banana on it, then he used his
"fang cleaner" which was a high-speed electric
toothbrush, Chris often thought of himself
as a cat, so needless to say he brushed his
fur, and trimmed his claws, dressed in
his special work clothes, and went outside
with his pressurised/vacuum lunch container,
which was not just a lunch box, it was a pressurised
soda cannister with a CO2 injector, and a vacuum
sealed food compartment that was pumped out
with a powerful little motor that he installed
himself, these hightech gadgets that he
brought often made people think he
was weird.
This morning when he got to his workbench,
April and Jack were standing there.
"Hi guys!" He said with his usual happy face,
and just sat down as if nothing was happening.
April put a stack of 6 or 7 papers stapled together
down on Chris's workbench, but Chris was already
starting in fixing a broken amplifier that his supervisor
put there for him.
Then April and Jack tried the stupid
Bob and Carole Normal "ahem ahem"
thing, but Chris did not respond because
those sounds did not register with him.
April and Jack still waited there, but Chris
still did not seem to notice the papers,
and when he reached for the soldering
iron, the papers were in his way, but he
did not see them and knocked them
off the workbench.
Finally realising that Chris was not going
to be interrupted, April and Jack decided
to hit him up on break.
The break bell sounded and Chris sped
off to the break room, his chair making
a loud scooting noise as he pushed against it
before April or Jack could catch him,
Chris could move very fast.
Chris was down in the break room for about
4 minutes before April and Jack finally
caught up with him, huffing and puffing.
Chris was sitting there eating
a HUGE chocolate-filled doughnut with
chocolate frosting and drinking chocolate
milk, this was what Chris always had on
break, nothing else.
April and Jack approached him as he
finished his snacks, and Chris let out a
very loud BURRRRRRRPP!!
Chris giggled loudly and smiled at
them. "Hi! I bet you can't burp like that!"
"NNno, I guess we can't!" said Jack trying
to smile though it all.
"Chris," April began sweetly,
"We want to talk to you about something."
"Oh what?" said Chris his boyish eyes shining.
April continued, "You didn't stop by the union
office yesterday."
"Sorry I forgot." Chris said
"Well, its ok", April forgave him
"We just came to you this time,
see, you should join the union."
"Why?" asked Chris
"Well, what do you mean 'why'?"
asked April, "You don't ask why."
"But I don't know why thats how
come I wanna know."
Chris said insistantly.
"Because people who work here are
union workers, see in the union
you get help from everyone in the
union and the mean old bosses can't
make you do too much work." April finished.
"But, Steve don't make me do too much work."
Chris came back.
"Oh I know Steve is nice," April continued her
plastic propaganda "but old Mr. Jones
the big boss, can be very mean sometimes,
he makes us work on SATURDAYS sometimes!"
"But Mr. Jones is never mean to ME."
said Chris, "and I don't got nothing to do
on Saturday sometimes." said Chris
"I don't always get to play with Joshie EVERY
Saturday, and I'd get bored and lonely if I just had to
sit home all day with nothing to do."
April looked at Jack who sighed and rolled his
eyes, and April decided she did not want to
hear his "excuses" anymore, and said
"Look, Chris, if you just answer some
questions I will make sure that
Mr. Jones never is mean to you in the
future."
"Ok." said Chris.
Jack wrote down what Chris said,
as April asked the questions.
When they were finished, April said
"Now, Chris, take these papers back
to your bench, and sign your name on
*this line*" She made a large X with
her red pen on the line.
"Can you write your address?" April asked him.
"Yeah I can do that." Chris smiled
"Ok GREAT!" April beamed and shot an evil
smile at Jack who smirked evilly back and winked
at April.
Then the menacing two left.
DOOOOOOOOOOT!
The break bell sounded and everyone began
grumbling as they made their way back to
work, except for Chris, he ran at top speed
up the stairs and down the corridor
at about 20 MPH whooshing past
everyone creating a breeze, and
getting alot of strange looks
before he "slid into home" loudly screeching
his shoe rubber for about 5 feet on the
polished linoleum floor.
Only a few heads turned who were new,
the other workers just kept on working or
shook their heads, they knew Chris
that well even though few ever really
talked to him, they knew they were late
back from break if they were not at their
workbenches 3 minutes after hearing the
screech.
Chris had his head in the clouds today,
and was feeling really super today so he
signed his name "His Royal Majesty
Feral Christopher Lionpaws."
but then his pen ran out of ink
and he winged it into the rubbish
can with a "CHUNG!" sound.
So, for his address he put down
his P.O. box number in purple crayon,
and shoved the papers into the cubbyhole
in his workbench and forgot about them.
After work, April and Jack managed to
catch him running out of the building
and he had to screech to a stop,
"EEEEEEEECH!!!"
Jack reeled back a bit because he thought
that Chris was going to slam into him.
"Hey Chris!" Jack smiled plasticly,
"Did you finish those papers?"
"Oh yeah they're at my bench." Chris
said and ran back to get them, then
came back to the office and plopped
them down in Jack's hands and ran off.
Jack and April never paid attention
to what Chris wrote for his name and
how he wrote his address, they just
sent the forms off.
